What Is VIN Number - VIN Number Check

 A VIN number is one of the most key factors that one should always take into consideration when purchasing a motor vehicle.A VIN is a serial number used by the motor manufaturing industries or companies to identify each vehicle, so since it serves the purpose of identity that means each VIN is different from then next even if the vehicles are from the same company and share the same model.
Buyers get a chance to workout the age of a car and its manufacturer using a vin and from 1981 the VIN number has been the important key worldwide for identifying a vehicle and vehicle history. This number is made up of 17 digits with different meaning from each section.  This number is located on a metalic plate and is mostly placed on the drivers side of the vehicle dashboard.

this serial number as we've discussed before it gives you information about its origin and nature. So lets look at what the sections of this number indicate:

The first 3 digits of VIN:


This section gives us information about the manufacturer of the vehicle. These 3 digits of the VIN are commonly termed  as "the manufacturer identifier". The 1st digit is the digit of the country of origin,  if the car was built from parts produced in other countries, then this is the digit that clearly indicate where the car was assembled.

The 4th to the 8th digit of VIN

 

This is the section that indicates the vehicle desription,from the  4th all the way to the 8th number of the VIN that's the section for the description of the vehicle. The 4th digit indicates the horsepower of the car or it's weight, then the 5th number is the one that represents the mode of the car (such as SUV, car, truck, sedan, van, etc.). The 6th digit which mostly regarded as the important and special used by the manufacturer for a certain car model such gallardo or veryon etc .  The 7th number, gives us information about how the body of a car is, for instance is it a two door or what. The 8th digit gives us information about the motor of the vehicle.

The 9th Digit of VIN


The 9th digit is a check digit as a way to prevent against fraudulent VINs. It is a complicated and sophisticated mathematical equation using the other digits of the VIN to determine the final check digit code.

The 10th Digt of VIN


The 10th digit tells you what year your car was made. They can be either numbers or letters.

The 11th digit of VIN


The 11th digit is known as the plant code and tells you where a car was manufactured and assembled.

12th to 17 VIN numbers


 These last 6 numbers of the VIN are a sequence of numbers determined by the order in which the car was produced. Production sequence numbers identify the vehicle itself, sort of like a serial number
